If you’re wondering how to write a life coach bio, there’s no official “correct” way. We recommend focusing on a “core” bio first—a medium-length blurb (100-200 words) that can be repurposed and revised (lengthened or shortened) as needed for different uses. Remember—your bio is never static. It must be able to mold and bend to fit different needs.

With so many coaches on the market, the best thing you can do is get clear on what exactly you specialize in. Without clarifying your coaching niches, you’ll forever be challenged to stand out from the crowd.

Most coaching prospects have specific needs, and they’re searching for a coach who has specific expertise aligned with those needs. That’s why you should name your coaching niches (no more than a few) early on in your coaching bio. For example, if you want to become a spiritual life coach, your coaching bio should clearly mention this niche as a focal point.

2. Qualifications

After listing your areas of expertise, or your coaching niches, immediately offer some evidence as to why you’re qualified in those areas. This could include how long you’ve been a coach, positions you’ve held, who you’ve served, and/or the best life coaching certifications you’ve earned. The goal here is to establish credibility and authority. If the first part of your coaching bio hooked in the reader, this second part continues to persuade them of your legitimacy.

Let’s now take the above template and turn it into a more tangible example for a made-up coach named Jim Smith. We’ll start by breaking down the content into our templated pillars, then fleshing out a full, medium-length bio.

Tying it together and adding some color:

Of course, there may be times when another paragraph should be added to serve a specific need—maybe a more personal paragraph covering Jim’s hobbies. Or more detail on his business accolades. Pro Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Bio

Remember, writing your coach bio is only half the equation. To conclude, let’s review some pro tips you can leverage once you have a working bio to feature throughout your digital profiles and website.

1. Create different variations for different uses.

As you adapt your bio for different uses, store the variations somewhere accessible. Even consider labeling the variations to remind yourself when you might want each one. This forethought will save you tons of time in the future. And the more you use different variations, the clearer it will become which ones work best for you.

2. Consider the greater context in your publishing strategy.

Once you have created your coaching bio, where does it actually appear? Your bio tells the story. You also need to show the story. When publishing your bio online, be mindful of the surrounding context—that is, what other content are you featuring in tandem with the bio?
